testimony which He bore of His own mediatorship between
God and man, when He said: 'I am the Way, and the truth,
and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by
me' (John xiv. 6). Therefore we confidently invite every
one bearing the name of man, to test in his own person,
and by his own experience, the truth of what the Lord
once said to a multitude of His followers: 'Every one
therefore which heareth these words of mine, and doeth
them, shall be likened unto a wise man, which built
his house upon the rock: and the rain descended, and
the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon the
rock' (Matt. vii. 24-5).
