PREFACE
THIS book was originally written by the Rev. Dr. Koelle,
a profound oriental scholar, who for many years resided
in Turkey, as a missionary of the Church Missionary
Society.
It was published by the Church Missionary Society in
1865, and is now reprinted as it deals with an interesting
and important aspect of the Muhammadan controversy.
The transliteration has been changed into the form adopted
by the C.L.S. and a few notes have been added; otherwise
this edition is an exact reproduction of the original.
