Blind Landing

On a dare from his co-pilot, the pilot of a Soviet airliner attempted a blind landing of his jetliner.

Two minutes before landing the pilot ordered the flight engineer to pull the blinds over the cockpit windows, and then he tried to land the plane using only his instruments. The pilot broke every rule for blind landings which may be allowed only on training flights and then only with an instructor who has full visibility in the next seat.

During the descent the pilot made several misjudgments. At 0.8 seconds before landing the blinds were released which revealed they were missing the runway. The pilot tried to abort the landing but it was too late. The plane crashed, made a gigantic leap, overturned and caught fire.

The pilot urged on by the co-pilot caused the meaningless loss of lives. What a picture this is of many souls today who urged on by the prince of darkness, Satan, who has lower blinds over the eyes of their hearts lest the light of the gospel of Christ should shine unto them and they should be converted and saved. The devil would have men attempt blind landings at heaven. Therefore he likes to keep men occupied with the things that must shortly pass away so that they never have time to think of eternity. He knows that unless a soul repents and turns to Christ that they will spend eternity with him in hell.

The pilot was one of a handful to survive the crash. He was tried in a court of law and found guilty and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. A Soviet newspapers report of the trial said that the pilot performed the action in an attempt to test his flying abilities. It blamed the crash on his exaggerated sense of self-assurance.

Friend, will you not let these often quoted verses from Gods word, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and Except you repent, you shall all likewise perish, abolish your self-assurance to attain heaven on your own skill? Without Jesus Christ, who is the only Savior of sinners, you havent the slightest chance.

At Calvary, a hill outside Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus died for sinners. The blood he shed is sufficient to wash away the sins of every member of the human race if they would only trust in him.

Because of their exaggerated sense of self assurance, many will never see their need of receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, and they will end up making a blind landing in eternity only to crash and burn in a real hell.

Millions in our world today are atheists who say there is no God. Denying the existence of God they will end up making blind landings into eternity when they pass out of this world. What a frightful surprise awaits them!

Dont be one who denies the existence of God and guarantees themselves a lost eternity. But rather come as a lost sinner to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Everyone who bows the heart to him and confesses him as Savior has the privilege of knowing the Blessed Assurance of sins forgiven and having a home waiting for them in heaven.

There are really two classes of people populating this globe. Those who have an exaggerated sense of selfassurance and feel they have no need of the Savior. And those who have believed on Jesus Christ for salvation and have the Blessed Assurance of sins forgiven. To which class do you belong? To which class do you want to belong? You may be absolutely certain Jesus Christ will save you if you turn to him. Only be sure to turn to him before it is forever too late.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life.
