Is the Author of a Book Critical of Islam an Ancestor of
President Bush?
The December 13, 2004, issue of the
London-based, pan-Arab newspaper Al Hayat contains an
article stating that Cairo’s Al-Azhar Islamic Academy wishes
to ban a book critical of Islam authored by the alleged
grandfather of President George W. Bush, who was also named
George Bush. However, the truth is that Reverend George Bush
is NOT the grandfather of President George Bush. They simply
have their facts wrong.
Egyptian censors pass "Bush" book on Islam
CAIRO, Egypt, June 25, 2005. — Censors at
al-Azhar, Cairo's centre of Islamic learning, on Thursday
passed a 19th century biography of Prophet Mohammad by a
scholar portrayed in the Arabic media as an ancestor of U.S.
President George W. Bush. The Academy for Islamic Studies,
which censors religious books, had recommended last year
that the government ban "The Life of Mohammad" by American
scholar George Bush, first published in 1830 and reissued in
the United States in 2002.
George Bush book gets nod from Al-Azhar
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, June 25, 2005. —
The highest authority in Sunni Islam approved a book
describing the Prophet as an "imposter" and Muslims as
"locusts" that the Egyptian press continued on Friday to
attribute to the US president's great-grandfather despite
denials from Washington. "The Al-Azhar Institute for Islamic
Studies approved the book titled "The Life of Mohammed,
founder of the religion of Islam and of the Empire of the
Saracens", Egyptian newspapers announced. The book was
published in 1837 by Reverend George Bush, whom Egyptian
newspapers - including state-owned publications - have
presented as the current US president's great-grandfather.
